If your central heating isn’t working as well as it should do, then you might need a power flush service. Power flushing is a big job, but it will help to maintain your boiler and your whole heating system and get them working at their best again.
Power flushing is a technique where water and chemicals are flushed around your central heating system to give it a thorough cleaning. As part of a service we’ll power flush radiators and your boiler, so that your entire system is refreshed.
So, why is a power flush needed? Over time, your central heating system will get a build-up of sludge, rust and debris, which happens as dirty water gets into the system and your pipes are very gradually eroded. If left untreated, this can start to cause blockages in your system or even leaks as it grinds against seals. Generally, this debris will cause your system to run less efficiently, and if it gets into the boiler it can cause it to breakdown completely.
There are some tell-tale signs that your system may need a power flush. Firstly, check your radiators. Do they have a number of cold spots even when turned on? Or do they take a long time to heat up in the first place, and cause a lot of noise when they do? Banging pipes are another sign, as well as if your boiler keeps shutting down and needing a restart.
With a power flush, specialist chemicals are pumped around your system using a dedicated machine. This will break down any blockages and flush out the debris, giving you completely fresh water throughout your system. You should then see a marked improvement in the performance of your central heating – radiators will heat up faster, and they’ll be quieter and hotter too.
A power flush is a big job, and it’s recommended that you have one every 5 to 6 years. The cost will vary depending on the size of your home and the number of radiators in your property, but we will always be cheaper than British Gas and other chains who are renowned for adding premiums into their costs.
