Homeowner Gas Safety Certificates

Gas Safety Certificates

If you are a homeowner then you normally don’t need to worry about getting a gas safety certificate. However they can put your mind at ease, and you may need one in certain circumstances. If you do, then our expert gas engineers are more than happy to visit your home and provide you with a homeowners gas safety certificate.

A gas safety certificate is a legal document that details whether the gas appliances in a property are safe to use. They’re required by law for any rented properties as well as for commercial buildings, where the owner has a responsibility to keep either their tenants or their employees safe.

It involves a gas safety check, where all appliances, flues and fittings are examined and tested to make sure they work correctly and there are no concerns about damage or wear and tear that could lead to a gas leak. The certificate then details all of the appliances that have been looked over, as well as any safety concerns.

For homeowners, you aren’t required to get a gas safety certificate, but it’s still worth having an engineer visit your property regularly to ensure your home is safe. We can provide the same standard of service as we would on the legally-required safety inspections, helping to reassure you that there are no problems that need your attention.

The only situation where you may be asked to provide a gas safety certificate is if you are selling your home. It’s not part of the requirements but the buyer may ask for an inspection and certificate if they’re savvy, so that they know your home doesn’t have any hidden issues. Conversely, you can also request a gas safety certificate from any property you’re buying.
